Speedo Readings

Post by plg422d »

My current speedo has a 1378 turns per mile rating and it is reading slow. I have a speedo with 1408 turns per mile rating. Will this be better and is the difference likely to be 2% faster than than the existing?

Thanks

speedo

Give us the year of your car and the diff ratio and details of any modded mechanicals together with the SN numbers (on the face of the speedos).
Unless I have completely flipped your alternative speedo would surely read even more slowly?

Hmmm - 1378 is interesting - because I think I need a 1330 speedo to match up my 3.7 diff (if it ever arrives). Is that a black-face, or silver/gold face speedo ? Your 1408 will be slower than the existing speedo - not faster. At the moment - 1378 turns are needed to show 1 mile, change to 1408 and it will need an extra 30 turns (not a lot!) before that mile comes up!

It is a black face but the odometer isn't working.

the 1408 is also black face but has KPH as well as MPH. Need to look for a lower Turns per mile - or think i might just get a SATNAV which shows MPH as an easier alternative!

Is your car in some way modified - different gearbox and/or diff ? Because 1378 is not the correct tpm for a standard Minor.

13 inch wheels I assume. Hmm. I wouldn't think that would make a huge difference.

I have fitted a new speedo 1408 tpm and the speedo is now reading within 10% even with 13" wheels. It looks like the old speedo was just knackered and gave such inaccurate readings. thanks to one and all

Hmmm - 10% is still quite a lot to be out - would easily get youa speeding fine!
