My Van Brake trouble

Post by ClaireAshby »

Thought this would be the place I can get some Help.
I have Restored My Austin Quarter ton Van. Before it was restored the Brakes locked on and caught fire they were vacuming. It has Marina Dics and callipers new pipes all round and flex hoses. I Had a Master cylinder replaced. Iv just had Servo kit fitted fitted. Its on the road use it daily been ok for 4 weeks but now they have locked on again.
Any Ideas as no one eles has been able to fix it.
Kind Regards Claire

unfortunately you have totake the master cylinder out to remove the little seal

it may be possible to do it in situ but doubtful
some one may come along and suggest maybe a way of doing it in situ

There's a metal thing that looks a bit like a top-hat, and inside it is a similarly-shaped rubber seal. It's that seal you want to remove.

If it doesn't work, you're not hitting it with a big enough hammer.

There is something called a valve cup that goes into Valve Body and i can see you would have to remove the master cylinder to do it What do you think have i got the right bit? :P

Yes, that's the one. :)

Only remove the cup; leave the valve body in.

Looks like a Big operation so old cloths on spanners out it is then. At least will be able to see if all parts are ok once its out and replace if needed. I Hope it works. Do have some other probs to ask about when brakes are fixed so glad iv found this site Thank you

It may simply be the servo that has locked the brakes on - worth checking before delving into the master cylinder. But the reality is - it likely is that troublesome seal! Is the servo connected to both front and rear brakes - or just the fronts ?

Seems to cause a fair bit of trouble - one way or another! But I stand corrected - the seal is not troublesome - it's just where it IS that causes the trouble !
