creaking noise when pulling off

My car;s started making a creaking noise when pulling away from a standstill.

Any ideas anyone? Clutch? Engine mountings? Engine steady?

Can't really tell where the noise is coming from as it only does it when moving away.

Regards and Thanks

Andy

Could well be engine steady bracket breaking away from the the bulkhead. More seriously - could be rear spring mounts........

Could be any part of the structure moving, but I'd then expect to hear it at other times too. Quite likely brakes coming off - possibly worn return springs or sticking cylinder.

Have a look at the eye bolt bushes (where the front suspension attaches to the front chassis leg)
They are notoriously creaky if worn out.
Looking at the nut on front end of the torsion bar see that it appears central in the eye bolt.
The higher it is the more knackered the bushes are.

No it;s not eyebolt bushes, I know what that sounds like 8^). It's definitely transmission related. The noise occurs when letting out the clutch in first gear when pulling away.

Could be the engine steady though. I'll check that out.

Thanks both.

Could be the clutch plate failing - I had the centre tear out of one!

It would be sensible to try to locate the noise. front or back would help.
Is it directly related to the clutch movement or the forward motion of the car? Does it creak when you use the clutch with the engine off?
Rev the engine whilst in neutral.
Try applying the handbrake, engaging 1,st gear and leaning out of the car with the door open (and as safely as possible) listen for the location of the noise whilst carefully letting out the clutch (momentarily) against the resistance in the brakes. Keep your other foot over the brake pedal just in case.
Also could the fan belt be slipping or the water pump failing?

How about arthritis in the left leg?

Hi

Did you find out what the creaking noise was when setting off from a standstill? Mine does exactly that too at the moment and I had new cylinders fitted at the front ( where the noise is coming from ) about 2 months ago. I thought it was the clutch as it only happens when I lift my foot up in first. Thanks

When looking at old posts like this, whichever the forum is, I find it useful to check the originator's profile and see when they were last active, i.e. the last time the signed in (obviously it won't show the last time they read anything without signing in...)

In this case it says Last active: Thu Mar 22, 2012 6:53 am

'Conniecar61' - try pulling away in 2nd gear and see if it creaks then.......and what about in reverse?
