what colour should I paint my wheels and how do I match it-

Post by morriethou »

I have a 1962 morris minor 1000-first redgistered in may 1962. I want to paint the wheels as I have new tyres to go on it and at some stage want to paint the whole car. It has blue on the ownership papers and the interior upholstery is blue. I have a restoration book which suggests the colours for oct \\\'61-oct \\\'62 as trafalgar blue for body and old english white for the wheels. How do I match these colours if I take the wheels into the local paint shop. The only other blue it mentions prior to that jul \\\'60-oct \\\'61 is a clipper blue.<br>[img:d7fc7d572a]http://mmoc.org.uk/mbimage.php?src=1239691128_9417[/img:d7fc7d572a]<br>

If it is light blue then it will be Clipper Blue. Dark blue is Trafalgar blue. If it's an original 1098 then it will be Trafalgar blue as that was the first year of production (same as mine). Wheels were Old English White.
Paint code for Trafalgar blue is BU37 and Old english white is WT3

Just fixed your image - It's not Trafalgar Blue and looks a bit bright for Clipper Blue ?....

I'm guessing this is not a UK car - Maybe Aus or NZ?
Perhaps export colours were different?

The colours in the pic don't look very 'true' - so can't really rely on it.
A very close match for Old English White on wheels - is Dulux Magnolia Gloss! You may find it much less expensive to just brush paint them with that.

I'd be very tempted to use body colour with an unusual colour like that.

If you cant find Old English the later Rover Arum White is basically the same shade.

Arum white is quite a bit more 'beige' - but on wheels it wouldn't be noticed.
