Can anyone shed some light on this problem:

The passenger side window on my '69 4-door saloon drops slightly (about 1/2") on it's own as I am driving along but when it is lowered completely it is VERY hard to wind up again.

I have taken the door trim off but the mechanism seems inaccessible, also I have noticed that the glass will move slightly (about 1/8" - 1/4") when pushed from the front to the rear of the door.

Any ideas on a remedy?

It is possible to take the mechanism out but it is a long and fiddly job.

Before doing that I would be inclined to have a look at the channels that the side of the window runs in. They are made of a fibrous material that becomes dirty and hardens with age. If this has happened to your channels try taking them out and cleaning them well to get the dirt out of them. This will restore the body to them and may solve the problem.

Otherwise I will explain how to take the whole lot apart!

An afterthought.

I have just had a look at the wonderful morris on your website.
If you can do all that then taking the window assembly out should present no problem at all.

Thanks for the info, I'll try cleaning the channels first!

Lo, the front to rear play is probably due
to the fact that the channel liners are worn.
These are of a felt like material and are
easily changed,OR slide them out (upwards)
and refit them FOLDED IN THE OPPOSITE WAY to
the way they came out. This will show if the
slop is due to worn felt. It may also make
the windows so tight that they do not drop
1/2" as yours do now. The 'drop' is probably down to worn mechanism.
