Tight chain

Post by Rust bucket »

How much play should there be with a new simplex timing chain, just fitted one on good used gears and there is 1/4 play one side between the gears at most.

Normally the small sprocket teeth will be badly worn - usually best to change it too when changing the chain. As long as it's not 'bow tight' it will be fine. Are the sprockets lined up absolutely spot on?

No it's not bow tight, couldn't see any more wear on the small spocket than the bigger one, they are spot on I checked and double checked with a hacksaw blade, thanks for the reply.
