Does anyone know the amount the carbon sticks proud of the steel "holder" on a new unit?
Also does any of the parts vendors still sell the mechanical release bearing to fit a 1275?

Cannot give you original thickness but the carbon should not be allowed to go within 1/8" (3mm) of the metal carrier.

At £215 plus VAT I will stick to my hybrid concentric version which is a cross between the Peter May Engineering clutch release bearing Pt No's: 5.6 and 5.13.1. I have a full race AP 7.5" diaphragm clutch and the release system works well even if the pedal pressure is a bit high but it gives me great calf muscles on my left leg!!!! Anyway the full concentric version would have to be 'fitted' as my gearbox and bell housing are not Minor so extra work.
