Chaps
I'm rebuilding my 1098 and have got to the distributor drive insertion. The workshop manual appears to contradictive it says insert with the larger segment uppermost then it says insert with larger segment to the bottom.
Do any real engineers know which way it fits please?

Ignore the top and the bottom offset as quoted in your manual.
This is the extract from the BMC wksp manual and it works.[frame][/frame]

And the good news is - it doesn't really matter! You can generally move the dizzy and/or HT leads to get the sparks where you need them... and if not, just reposition the shaft.

Re: Distributor drive replacement
That's fantastic
Thank you, I just didn't want to replace the engine and find out it was way out of timing.

Don't drop the shaft into the sump though... if you already have the sump on that is !
Glad to be back!
Re: Distributor drive replacement
Much more of a problem with a Mini.....if the shaft is dropped... Never done it - always EXTREMELY careful there...

Re: Distributor drive replacement
I did drop mine when refitting. Luckily I had put a tappet chest cover bolt in the top and had tied a bit of wire around the end so it lifted right out again.
Certainly worth doing as dropping the sump can be a bit time consuming - all those little screws!
