My car started making some terrible noises going up a hill. Once we got over the hill the noise went and there didn't seem to be anything wrong with the clutch.
Have pulled engine out (948cc) and found a small piece of metal that on the curved edge is bevelled on one side and the squarer edge has been broken off something as the edge is rough. One side of the piece has some scratches on it probably where it had moved around and being picked up by the ring gear.
Havent taken the flywheel off yet but don't recall anything like that on the rear of the engine.
Anybody got any ideas apart from it being a rogue piece that has got there somehow[frame][/frame]

Looks like one of the clutch fork tips.

Re: Piece of metal found in bellhousing
It does look like a piece of the large spring on the bendix, mine was cracked in two when I did my winter rebuild.
What does the end of the starter look like ?.
