axle question

Post by robandsophie »

Hi,

Quick questions:
(A) Am I safe to jack my moggy under the diff housing where the drain plug is, then use axle stands either side of diff. Or do I need to jack each side separately under the suspension?
(B) What plug spanner do I need to get the drain and filler plugs out?

Cheers

Rob

Yes to a) ( although I rather assume you are using a trolley jack..) and it's an odd size - some think a 3/8" square drive will fit - but it's a tapered hole and if too tight may just slide the square out. I use a piece of square bar which I have tapered at the end - then a wrench on the bar.

Yes, I used a 3/8 square drive today to do this very job..................make sure you successfully remove the filler plug before draining, just in case - you don 't want to drain it and find you can't refill!

ESM do a drain and filler plug that uses a 3/8" Allen key to do up and undo.
