I can state that the restrictor is essential. I had one from Declan which I fitted after a rebuild (big end failure) with good results.

I have just been notified by Rolf Corbat that the next batch of oil restrictors are ready. I will have some here at the weekend and have informed those who have been waiting.

You may like to comment on the attached link and advise if your restrictor is or may be suitable for use with the convertor or if you have any other relative comments.

Phil,
I would think that neither the manufacturer nor the distributor of those conversions or even the guys running cars with the 803cc engines are aware of the filter problem. I did inform an 803cc filter supplier on ebay some time ago about this issue but you can imagine how many replies I got.
I have no way to check that conversion without buying one and measuring it up.
Surely somebody on here has an Austin with an 803cc engine or knows somebody with one and could post the article on the Austin website (if existing).
I am not trying to sell restrictors as I have always passed them on without any mark-up. Just trying to save a few helpless 803cc engines from sudden death due to repro rubbish not being fit for purpose.

Regards
Declan

I get filters for my 803 A30 from the Austin club and have no problems. It's never arisen as a problem on their forum while I've been on. Their technical guru is a guy called Neil Evans. I can put you in touch if you think it would be useful?

Steve,
It might be worth contacting him. Can you measure the size of the hole on one of the filters you got from the A30 club just as a matter of interest?

Hello Declan, just had a look and the inlet holes are correct at less than 2mm. Trouble is l think they are NOS ones that club spares must have had at the time. They are FRAM PS 826.
Have also checked old posts on the A30 forum and clearly this problem is recognised there. Some owners were considering deleting the oil filter completely and simply doing more frequent oil changes. No recent discussion on this so l don't know the outcome. :-?

I have just swapped one of these new filters for an old tecalemit one and the pressure is back up to about where it used to be. I only do a few hundred miles a year, and oil needs changing at least once a year anyway, so doing without a filter sounds like a good idea. I am going to screw a plug into the new filter tomorrow and refit it and see what happens.

With the return of full pressure a cold start is much more happy, and the old moggy can climb the hill straight away. I never thought a new filter could be the cause of low pressure, and it came from ESM so a reputable source.
