Please does anyone know of an alternative carburettor to fit a 1952 mm side valve ?

What's the issue? I don't think it'll take anything other than a standard fit H2.

Th standard carb for a Series MM is SU H1 1 1/8in horizontal as opposed to an H1 semi downdraft as fitted to the Series II. You would need to modify the inlet manifold to fit an H2 1 1/4 carb

You can Dremel out the inlet and TIG weld a larger flange on (I've done this) but the exhaust is so restrictive that there isn't much benefit. After that you are looking at fabricating a complete new manifold to get a larger carb on. Reece Fish carb would be a good option.

Just stick with the H1. why would you want anything else ? It won't increase vthe power - the limitations are elsewhere in the engine ....
