Oil gallery plugs
I want to knock out and replace these gallery plugs, on a previous occasion I tapped out a block and screwed plugs in, however this time I hope to use new original tap in type, thinking I'm never likely to want to remove them again for years and probably never. However I've been struck with this thought of the plugs blowing out after being disturbed. With that in mind, I can only think of using some sort of heat resistant sealer, or maybe I'm over thinking this, as I dare say they will crush enough to be secure.

Re: Oil gallery plugs
I think your concern is fully understandable!
Think I would go for screwed in plugs.

Les
If using new correct material plugs there should be no concerns about them blowing out.
For extra security smear the plugs with Loctite Loc N Seal.

Make sure that the plugs are not driven in too far so as to foul any cross drilling especially that serving the front main bearing.

I'm losing it big time! I've just got my ital cylinder block out of the shed, to sort out the galleries (the block I refer to in this thread) only to find I had already threaded the galleries! ------ and looking back on this forum noticed I even discussed doing this about 4 years back!
Should I worry ? !!
Now I only need to remember what thread I used ! it's a fine thread so looks like I'll have to make my own plugs!
I must have made one plug from brass as it's in place, so at least I've got a pattern.

Don't worry Les, I spent 10 minutes this afternoon looking for a pencil that I found behind my ear.

Steve
I would consider myself lucky in finding my ear let alone the pencil

During my restoration you wouldn't believe what I bought twice because I forgot I already had it/them/some!
