Temperature sender thread size.

Post by midget »

Bit of a long shot, but I'm trying to fit a dual Smiths oil/water gauge to a 1098 head. The gauge (which was sold to me as a Minor one) has a much larger mounting body than the normal sensor in the head. I am aware that adaptors are available and bought one which I thought to be correct. This was 3/8 NPT to 5/8 UNF. The 3/8 side is correct for the gauge side but the 5/8 UNF is too large for the head orifice.
Have tried to measure this correctly but need to be sure that it is correct. I am measuring it at 11/16 UNF--is this correct please?
I assume the thread type is compatible with all Smiths gauges?

The threads in the heads that I have are all 5/8" x 18 UNF.

Is this the adapter you have?

The adapter on my 940 head is male into the head and the transmitter female.

That was fast! No I saw this one on Ebay and(wrongly) assumed it to be correct. Yes, both these are female input/male out.

I have now ordered your Moss product.
Many Thanks

Just to say that the answer to my question is indeed 5/8 UNF. The Moss product that Phil suggested was correct and the Ebay product was not as advertised ie 3/8 to 5/8 as it was 5/8 to 3/8.

Thanks to Phil.
