It's actually taken nearly a year. The original head gasket failure happened on 9/9/2018!
It took me until Feb to get the engine out.

This is the one fitted to mine, but as they are local I called to pick it up. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Classic-Mini ... Sw~gRVr3oT

Is that plastic fan considered an upgrade to the twin blade metal ones? I've seen one for sale locally and I wonder if it'd be a good improvement for my moggy? Does the 948 suffer with overheating in summer much?

I do not consider the plastic fan to be an upgrade. There is nothing wrong with the metal fan.
The only thing that goes wrong with the metal fan is that it sometimes cracks - starting at the mount bolt holes.
If the clamping plate is used then the risk of cracking is considerably reduced.
If the cooling system is kept in good serviceable condition the 948cc engine will not overheat in the summer.

Thanks Phil. I just wondered if the plastic one offered improved cooling, even if the original fan blades are adequate. I've found one for sale for €4 and I just thought it might be worth considering. :tu1:

Is the fan in the link below the one you have been offered locally:-

I have one of these fans on the shelf and the only thing that I can consider as a benefit is that having the smaller 6 blades the noise caused by the fan rotating would be reduced.

The key air flow volume characteristic between multi bladed fans is the blade pitch not the number of blades.

Correct - but
More blades produce a quieter fan.
More blades lead to a better balanced fan.
More blades = less ambient noise.

So right, I had a single fan on a Mini many years ago, for ages I just couldn’t understand where a throbbing noise was coming from, eventually I changed the fan arrangement and all went quiet. Funny how things bring back memories! :D

I think it's from a Mini so I don't know that it'd even fit, but for 3 and half quid I'd take a chance.

Save your £3.50.
It is not suitable.
The Mini fan pushes the air through the radiator - not drawing it through the radiator.
The blades on the fan pictured above are at the wrong angle i.e. angled for pushing air.
If you do decide to fit a plastic fan the fan in the link I posted above is the one to have.

Some classic Minis were fitted with the single two bladed fan Pt No: 2A997. Some were fitted with qty 2 of 2A997.
Was also supplied as a BMC special tuning part.
Were you referring to your classic Mini Cooper?
