Hi people. I have a 2 part query on the go. I have bought an mot'd traveller running project so, at last, having joined the club, I can now proudly display my MMOC sticker!
About an hour after returning home from it's first three mile outing, I noticed oil on the driveway (don't we all I hear you say!) On investgation, it is coming from the spin on oil filter housing between the housing and the block. Now back in the day (of my last tinkering with a traveller) we used red or green Hermatite depending on the whereabouts of the gasket. So my question is what do we use "these days" for gasket sealant if any?
Here's a photo of the car. It appears rotated 45 degrees anticlockwise. Don't know why.
Would you say the colour smoke grey? I've looked in all the suggested places from previous threads on where to find the colour code but no joy.
Thanks for reading.

Re: oil leak at spin on filter housing
Make sure that you have the right gasket for the filter head fitted to your car.
Depending on what spin on filter head you have fitted will determine the gasket required.
Just lightly smear the gasket on both sides with general purpose grease and fit - no need for specialist sealers. The grease keeps the gasket supple which makes it last longer and more effective.
I suspect that you have this type of filter head fitted as it is the most common spin on filter conversion.

This is the gasket for the above type of spin on filter head.

Glad Phil has sorted you out.
When you take off the old gasket , make sure the surfaces on the block and spin on adaptor are flat and really clean i.e no old gasket bits still stuck on , making an uneven surface.
