Master cylinder level

Post by MKT »

Sorry if this is a very basic question,
checked the level in the master cylinder today, in my workshop manual it says fill to half inch below filler neck, my hand book says a quarter of an inch below, and the master cylinder cap has written on it fill to bottom of thread, can you tell me what is correct please

1/2" below the threads on the filler neck to allow for expansion of the brake fluid.

Any higher and there is a good chance that the brake fluid will expel from the breather hole in the cap.

It might depend on how you applied the brakes. Follow the highway code and the master cylinder will need more air space than if you don’t.
