The following is a guide on how to remove a lock barrel from the boot-lid handle and then replace/repair the barrel and mechanism.
The handle, in this case, is from a Series MM or Series II boot-lid.
In my case, the assembly was seized up, so I needed to dis-assemble the whole thing to find out the root cause, but this also serves as a guide to replace the barrel assembly.
First, remove the complete handle assembly from the car and place the shaft of the assembly in a vice.
Note the "pinched" areas of the shaft that hold the "dome" in place - these need to be filed off to remove the dome and get at the barrel retaining peg underneath.
Turn the shaft over and do the other pair of flats
In this case the stamping shows that the fixing screw, at the end of the shaft, is a BA size (2BA to be precise).
Once the pinched protrusions have been filed down, prise forward the covering cowl
Free the washer and spiral spring
In my case the problem of a non-functioning lock was due to a badly rusted lock bolt - see part 2 (MMOC website constraints on number of pictures)

That's on the number of attachments per POST, not per TOPIC..... MMOC website constraints on number of pictures...
Why not just add another post to the same topic instead of creating 4 Topics?
All that's likely to happen is people will comment on an individual Part (Topic), just like I have here, perhaps asking a question of two and the whole thing will get split up in the forum....
Perhaps a friendly Administrator or Moderator can merge all these Topics together so that it all makes sense in a few months.... That's assuming it can be done here on this Forum, I know it can on one where I'm a Moderator, but anything is possible (or not) here in MMOC Forumland...

Geoberni,
Thanks for that, I must have been having a "mental block" when posting this up (and also the other multipart post I did) - Doh!
Maybe I should't be posting late at night.
Thanks, George.

Hello Geoberni,
I thought that would rectify the problem myself, but I don not have and "edit" facility, any more, for my posts, as I was going to copy text from the parts 2, 3 & 4 into part 1 and then then rename the topic.
George.

Re: Removing Boot Lock Barrel - Step by Step guide - all parts
In my case the problem of a non-functioning lock was due to a badly rusted lock bolt
I had to clean up the barrel with a brass bristle brush to remove the muck. I then had to punch out the rusted lock bolt (gently) The lock bolt had to be cleaned up (using a wire brush and any other slightly abrasive medium).
The cleaned up lock bolt was then replaced in the assembly
Next, punch out the barrel retaining pin
With the key in the lock, winkle out the barrel
Gunged up barrel now out
At this point you can replace the barrel with another to match up key sets or, in this case, proceed to repair the problem.I had to clean up the barrel with a brass bristle brush to remove the muck. Next, reassemble the handle. washer, spiral spring an cowl in the order that they were removed in.
Jam the whole assembly back in the vice to push the cowl past the filed off shaft "wings" I then decided to drill the retaining roll-pin hole on the other set of flats to preserve the stampings. If you don't have access to roll-pins, use anything else that can be punched into whatever diameter hole you decide to drill. Hole drilling in progress Hole drilling completed and ready for roll-pin (retaining pin) insertion

Hole drilling completed and ready for roll-pin (retaining pin) insertion
Insert the roll-pin (or other type of retainer)
Now cut the retaining pin to size
After cutting, the finished assembly
Replace in the boot lid and stand back to admire your work.'50 Low-light with 918 Side-valve engine,

Thank you for that Mr Panky. Shame that some of the other guides I posted up a couple of years ago have lost all their photos when the MMOC decided to create a new Website and the migration wasn't total
