The standard 'A' Series water pump with by-pass stub will fit the 1275cc Ital engine without any problem

This is the one I use which has the large impellor so circulates more coolant especially to the rear of the head:-

Shouldn't the 1275 always have the larger impellor? It will not fit the 'small' blocks without some fettling, but will fitting a small impellor pump into the larger engine provide enough cooling capacity?

Yes I think the Mini with larger impeller is the best option!

The 1275cc water pump was and still is fitted with a variety of impellors and what is fitted depends largely upon the manufacturer/supplier. They range from the small impellor to large impellor and from pressed steel impellor to cast impellor.

The preferred water pump way back was the Cooper S which had the large impellor but required reliving of the water jacket to the rear of the impellor.

A quality control item that should be inspected and can be adjusted if you have access to a press is the clearance between impellor tips and the pump body. I find that the clearance can be excessive but the impellor can be pressed further onto the [ump spindle to obtain the correct clearance. Too much clearance reduces pump efficiency.

If you use the pump in the link you will not go wrong.
