Should the ancillaries on the engine of a 1971 Traveller which has the block pained in black be the same?

A question to be put on the Concours Forum section for the " correct " answer. I've always understood that BMC Green was the colour for the engine block , much like a model T Ford was available in black or any colour so long as it was black. The usual suppliers opt for BMC Green.

As for ancillaries Radiator black , wiper motor black , air filter black , coil and dynamo ( if not with an Alternator ) coil either metal left unpainted or black , dynamo typically black.

I await the Concours experts to shoot me down on detail but then I'm in the " it's your car , paint it how you want it " school. Enjoy the car and safe motoring.

Thanks for the response Bob. I thought late Travellers like mine had their engines pained black rather than green.

1098 in the Mini was indeed painted black, so quite possibly was in the late travellers.

I think it was Travellers built around 1971/72 that had black engines.

That's really interesting and something that I never knew.

The last Travellers, vans & pick-ups definitely had black painted engines.

My Traveller was registered in August 1971 and what paint is left on the block is black as is the rocker cover and sump.

Traveller production stopped in April 1971 from memory. The last cars produced had the black engines and quite a few late Travellers remained unsold so were registered later. They were of course a very old fashioned car by 1971 when compared with the Ford Escort and Vauxhall Viva Estate cars as well as Austin/Morrises own 1300 Estate. New car buyers tend to prefer something up to date  . I bought my own first Traveller at around that time and there were lots for sale secondhand, very cheaply and in quite poor condition.
