Ital engine and gearbox

Post by andrew.searston »

Hi there
I have just bought a 1275 engine complete with gearbox, I believe it’s a+ engine code starts with 12v e-h could someone confirm this?
My main question is can the gearbox be used in the minor, I’m guessing the engine and box was out of a ital, any benefits to be had using it and is it a easy conversion
Thanks
Andy

It sounds as though it is indeed an Ital one, if this thread is anything to by:

I understand a Marina/Ital gearbox can be fitted but as they are a lot bulkier than the Minor one, a fair bit of modifying is required to make it all fit - see this thread about it:

The main identifier of a 1275cc 'A' Plus engine is the additional ribbing on the block. If it does not have the ribbing it is just an ordinary Marina block. Also the distributer is secured with a 'Y' shaped yoke and not the clamp as per the Minor.

Below is a Marina 'A' Plus engine. Note the additional ribbing.

The gearbox will fit but you will have to modify the body as the Marina/Ital bell housing/rear engine plate is very much larger.
