do you think it would work in a normal grease gun ?
Well it did for me, hence my earlier post.

Make sure it snaps on properly for a good seal.

Perhaps the problem might be the definition of a 'normal grease gun'.
I have a couple of old classic/vintage grease guns (Tecalemit) which I inherited from my dad, but they rely on you holding them tightly in place; I'm thinking that's what alawrence10360 may be referring to.
I'm pretty sure I'd make a right mess with EP90 in those.

Whereas a high pressure grease gun will clip onto the nipple because they work in 100s of psi.

e.g. sticking with vintage models this one I noticed on fleabay: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Swiss-Wanner ... SwnJhdTDDA

I must have a crap grease gun as i didnt have much success using it with EP 90
Also hen I move the wheels from side to side (off the ground) it doesnt feel like a smooth action
Its difficult to see how it can be fitted incorrectly if the spline fits through the bulkhead
Any thoughts ?

If you didn’t have much success, does that mean there is still no oil in the rack? If so then it figures the roughness will still be as you originally described. When you installed the rack did you leave the securing bolts slightly loose until the column was fitted. Doing that ensures the rack splines come through the floor at the correct angle to meet the column.

I'm sure that I read somewhere that they may feel rough when the wheels are off the ground due to the odd angle of the track rods. Now I can't find it.

I tightened the yokes up before fitting the column however I did ensure it was through the bulkhead and it wasn't fouling the bulkhead. I also moved / rattled the rack before finally tightening the yolks to ensure as best I could that it was in a good position.
I cant imagine its in the wrong position as I fitted the ball joints exactly as per the original an the wheels are pointing straight.
I hadnt considered the wheels being off the ground causing a problem. Its a good point.
I wish I could find the post you spoke about

I will remove the column and see how it feels

The wrong position I am referring to isn’t to do with the ball joint fitting or the wheels pointing straight. I was thinking about the rotation of the rack, which determines the angle at which the splined shaft comes through the hole. The correct angle ensures the steering column engages the splines without force. It’s easily sorted, with everything still assembled, just slacken the 4 rack fixings to let it settle and tighten again. This won’t necessarily cure the roughness but will ensure the rack and column are aligned properly.

Rack is now on
When looking from underneath the car and when the steering wheel is taken through its full travel I have noticed a slight flexing when the steering wheel changes direction from left to right
I see this at the point where the column meets the rack
No movement can be seen from inside the car
Its slight
All the bolts around the area are tight and all the bulkhead is solid and rust free
The wheels are on but are in free air
Any thoughts ?
Or does anyone have a vehicle in the same state who could do the same thing ?
Thanks

The column should be fitted and secured to the underside of the dash before tightening the rack clamps. That ensures that the rack is secured at the right angle in relation to the column.

Does your Minor have the strengthening plates around the aperture for the column and O/S & N/S rack mounts.

Flexing of the foot plate was a problem with early Minors and a BMC modification was incorporated.

See BMC wksp man Fig R.17 for details.

I had a crack in the footplate of my van, after drilling a small hole at each end to contain it, I bought and fitted a full length 1/8” plate to the footplate. You can just make it out from the picture.

im wondering if the position of the wheels and thier wieght is causing the issue
Im hoping someone will be able to see the same condition if they can

Comparing the toe plate of my Minor with the photos above you do have the full width factory fitted strengthening plate fitted.

Thats good news
As I said it may be because of the weight and position of the wheels
Im hoping someone has a vehicle on axle stands who can check if theirs does the same
