Fuel Pump

Post by h20_mako »

Hi i have a 1957 Tourer and from Singapore. My SU pump failed and now fitted a generic electric fuel pump.

I was looking at a replacement online and I'm not too sure if this generic electric fuel pump will cause any damage? Maybe pumping pressure is too high and cause failure?

Is SU pump better?
- it is best suited for the carbs to handle? in terms of flow rate, pressure, etc?
- or purely cosmetic as we want it to look original?

Or any electric fuel pumps will work just fine?

Also i notice there are electric conversions kit that converts points of standard SU pump to electronic. Any comments on this?

Thanks
Jason

Personally, I would keep it simple and original and purchase a standard SU pump with points which can be repaired/replaced in due course.
It will work properly and it'll look right too, if that is important to you. They are readily available too.
