Cylinder numbering?

Post by Blumpygrumf »

I can't believe I'm asking this but I can't seem to find definitive answers anywhere.

I need to know the cylinder numbering on a Morris Minor, from what I can gather number 1 cylinder is at the front (radiator end of the engine) then moving rearwards numbers 2, 3 and finally 4.

Is this correct?

Thanks....

It’s right, but the wrong reasoning. Cylinders are generally numbered from the timing end. Simple convention which works for engines that might have remote ancillaries. I expect there are exceptions to the rule somewhere.

The combustion/ignition timing of the Morris minor engine is No:1, No:3, No:4 and No:2.
