Re: Morris Marina 1300 engine plus 5 speed box
There have been several conversions carried out utilising the 1275cc Marina/Ital engine and Type 9 Ford gearbox and the process reported on this web site. Using the search facility will bring up various routes to achievement.
Nowadays a common conversion.
My own Marina/Ital/Ford conversion is with the Marina/Ital block and Ford RS 2000E gearbox.
Here is a link to one way of doing the job.
The link includes fitting instructions

An easy job once you have the right conversion parts.
You will need in addition to the parts already utilised in fitting the Type 9 to the 1098cc engine :-
A modified flywheel.
A modified rear engine plate.
The conversion bush/bearing that fits into the rear of the crankshaft.
There is some difference of opinion as regards the adapter/bush requirements but if you follow the instructions for the 1275cc engine in the link posted in my earlier posting it will all fit together nicely.

Further to above.
Modified flywheel...…………….The 1098cc Minor engine has 4 bolts to secure the flywheel. The Marina/Ital 1275cc engine has 6 bolts and 1 dowel to secure the flywheel. ESM can supply a suitable modified flywheel.
Modified rear engine plate...……..The oil pump is located in a different position relative to the crankshaft. The 1098cc rear engine plate can be modified to suit but the thickness of metal between the oil pump aperture and crankshaft aperture is so reduced that there is a high possibility of the metal cracking leading to oil leaks. The 1098cc rear engine plate crankshaft aperture can be modified to suit the 1275cc engine but again can lead to cracking and oil leaks.
The best solution is to obtain a 1275cc Midget rear engine plate or purchase a modified rear engine plate from ESM.
A new 1275cc Midget rear engine plate can be purchased in a suitable grade aluminium from Peter May Engineering for a price comparable to a good S/H 1275cc Midget rear engine plate.
You also have to change the front engine plate. Remove the 1275cc Marina/Ital front engine plate and fit the 1098cc Morris front engine plate.
Make sure that the Marina/Ital engine mount holes in the sides of the block are blind, if not block with a suitable bolt.
