Thermostat housing

I’ve got a 1275 engine in my saloon and it has a battered looking housing
I’ve had a look on line and can’t see one that’s the same as mine . The outlet pipe has a very slight kink towards the radiator and the ones I’ve seen got straight out as per pic
Some are around £8 and others are £25 but they look identical
What do you think?

This was my solution way back in 1996 to having a 1300cc engine fitted to my minor with 940 head whilst still retaining the Minor standard radiator.

The thermostat housing holes were drilled to 3/8" which allowed the thermostat housing to be re-aligned towards the radiator inlet.
The radiator inlet stub was trimmed back and a Minor bottom hose (without heater return) fitted between the two. It worked well and was a cheap solution to the problem but it does involve trimming the radiator inlet stub.

This what I did and used a cut down bottom hose as the top hose was no longer suitable.

The housing from a 'B' Series engine fits if you drill out the holes to 3/8" diameter, and points in the right direction to fit the standard Minor top hose - the outlet from the 'B' housing is slightly larger than the Minor, but a little working will get it on without too much trouble.

That's what I have on my 1098 with a 12G940 head, I opened the holes slightly to allow some rotation.

If not I will get a replacement of the one I have and open the holes as Phil suggested

What ever thermostat housing you use these are the gaskets to use.

You will not get better.

Lightly grease the gasket before fitting. Greasing gives longevity to the gasket and allows re-use if required. There is absolutely no need to use sealing goo when fitting the gasket.

The cork gasket deforms when tightened and therefore I would not recommend their use.
