Marina Disc Brakes

Hi All,
I have a 1275 Minor fitted with Marina disc brakes,and fitted with Minilite wheels.
A couple of questions as I now have a broken wheel stud.
Are the standard length studs correct length when fitted with Minilites?
Why do some suppliers say their studs are not suitable for alloy wheels?
What would be the correct nuts to suit the Minilites.?
Anyone know where I can source a set of studs?

IIRC I used https://www.morrisminorspares.com/rear- ... mm-p831261 as the original minor front studs are short for the thicker alloy wheels.

A couple of questions.

Are the wheels genuine Minilites or are they look a like copies?

What front hubs are fitted? Are they standard Marina hubs or Grumpy's modified Marina hubs? They could even be ESM modified Marina type hubs. A photo of the hub would be helpful.


Minor wheel studs are not suitable for Marina hubs as the stud is different in size, thread and form. My modified Marina front hubs use standard Marina wheel studs.

Minilite look a like wheels use standard wheel nuts but they must have the correct seat angle.

I have Marina hubs and look a like Minilite wheels fitted to my Minor.

Below are photos of the Grumpy's modified front hub fitted to my Minor so as you can compare. Note the re-positioned wheel studs.

That's really interesting Phil, I would have thought that the stud holes in the hubs would be filled and re-drilled for the 4" pcd minor wheel.

The holes in the hub are drilled, flanged inserts fitted from the rear of the hub and then re-drilled to 4" PCD. If you look closely you can see the flanged inserts.

Now here is a right old puzzle!
With all the new information I don’t think this conversion is from a Marina.
It has a ventilated disc,studs 50mm long,and a machined alloy rotor.
Could this be an aftermarket conversion by one of the big suppliers?
The wheels are Minator not Minilites.
Any ideas?

Looks like it could be Escort Mk 3 front caliper. Have a look at https://www.morrisminorspares.com/brake ... h-p1238069

Yes, they are indeed Ford Escort/Sierra discs, on alloy hubs. Due to a problem with the bearings working loose (which happened on mine, a few years after getting it fitted), most Minor suppliers nowadays provide steel hubs with this kit.

As above - your brakes are not Marina but Ford.

As it is steel any bearing problems are alleviated and gets around the stud suitability.

Assuming that you don't have a problem with the hubs or bearings, I would phone ESM and ask them if the studs are available and are they long enough for your wheels.

Interesting to see the considerable difference in thickness of the alloy hub vs. steel hub flanges - the alloy hubs widen the front track somewhat, I suspect...
