Differential oil – which type?

Post by alloriginal1owner »

Hello all,

Sorry, I couldn't find it by search: Which type of oil and how much of it do I need for the rear axle differential in a 1957 MM?

What make would you recommend? It should be available in Germany.

Thank you!

About 0,85 litre. Fill it using the spout ( Schlauch) that is contained in the oil bottle until it starts to flow out of the diff. It smells horribly so wear throw away gloves! Recheck the level after a few km.

Yes, I am in Mittel Hessen

Straight EP90 and no more than GL4 rating. GL5 will 'eat' the phosphor bronze components in the diff itself. I would always go for a well-known oil provider.

That sounds like an important point, thanks!

That seems not to be deliverable anymore. They only offer GL5 now.

I will go for Castrol EP 90 then: https://www.limora.com/de/getriebeoel-393734.html
