That was the cover that was on the engine when I bought it. I have a Land Rover flame trap fitted.

Hi Declan
That's an interesting set-up - can I ask a couple of questions?
Is the Land Rover flame trap a disposable combined breather / oil separator / flame trap?
I notice you are providing the vacuum from the inlet manifold in preference to the carb.
I thought the carb gave a more consistent low vacuum than the inlet manifold and that is why the later 'improved' PCV system did away with the inlet manifold vacuum + PCV valve in preference for the carb vacuum + no PCV valve?

The Landrover flame trap does act as a separator. It has coarse gauze on the inside. The reason I connected it to the inlet manifold was laziness as the connection was already there. The brass "thingy" upstream is a restrictor so basically has the same effect as connecting to the carb.

Thanks for the info and thanks for explaining about the restrictor - I'm learning a lot from this forum.
I like the landrover flame trap / oil separator as it is very compact, unobtrusive and cheap as chips
