Torsion bar reaction arm mod

Way back I removed the stepped location washer (Pt No: AAA1485) that secures the torsion bar into the cross member. I found that the angle of the step in the washer was not a right angle and did therefore it did not fit positively into the cross member.

Also the horseshoe washer (Pt No: AAA1484) which was installed to allow the torsion bar to be drawn out rearwards through the cross member is too soft a material and distorts when the torsion bar nut is tightened.

To improve the location at the rear of the torsion bar the horseshoe washer is discarded and a reduced diameter stepped location washer fitted in its place. The stepped location washer fits into the front of the hole in the cross member with the standard stepped washer fitted to the rear of the cross member hole.
Having a stepped washer either side of the cross member ensures a positive location of the rear of the torsion bar in the cross member.
You may have to put a washer between the reaction arm outer bolt hole and the cross member vernier plate.
Make sure that the two stepped washers do not make contact when fitted into the cross member hole as there may be some variances in stepped washer thicknesses.

Having the reduced diameter stepped washer can also help to centralise the torsion bar in the front and rear splined suspension arms.

Interesting mod, where did you get the 2nd stepped washer? Do you have a spec for it?

The second stepped washer is a standard washer https://www.morrisminorspares.com/front ... er-p830533 reduced in outside diameter to 1.75" so as to fit into the reaction arm recess.
