Just reintroduced a car to the road for the first time in decades, and the gearbox changes gear absolutely spot on, no crunching, selects well, doesn't jump out but WHINES, at any speed in every gear equally, except 4th which is much quieter but still some whine, is there any additive that would stop this as the cars very original and don't want to get restoring it.
Thanks

Re: Gearbox whining
Unfortunately it sounds to me like a bearing or damage to the drop gears in the box, in 4th the input and output shafts are locked together, in the others the drive goes through the drop gears to the layshaft and there is a much larger side load on the bearings.

Have you checked the oil level in the gearbox?
