How to dismantle oil pump ?

Post by Donald Ross »

Hello

I have a old Concentric Birmingham FD2 oil pump which i recently picked up as a spare for my 1098cc engine. It seems to be in very good condition although i would like to dismantle it to check on the condition on the inside.

I have tried removing the single screw which appears to hold it together but still cant get it to split apart.

Does anyone have any better idea of how to open it for inspection.

See photos attached

Thanks
Donald

Remove screw.
Place the pump over and above a soft surface so that when the pump body is separated the pump body is not damaged.
Hold the large part of the body of the pump which goes against the block drive shaft upwards.
Carefully knock the drive shaft down.
The drive shaft should knock the body off the mounting.
The service/wear limit details of the oil pump can be found in the BMC wksp manual.
Any scoring of the body, the annular ring and rotor means that the oil pump is not suitable for use.
Good quality oil pumps are relatively cheap and I personally would not use a S/H oil pump unless I knew its history.
