Re: Type 9 gearbox
Thanks Les I guess that's filling from the top by the look of itso would be accessable from in the cab I guess.Any ideas where the drain is
Re: Type 9 gearbox
Hi, I have the same T9 gearbox on my traveller.
I have the same filler plug on mine, with no separate plug to drain off the old oil.
I was advised to fill the gearbox with EP90 oil. I have been advised that this oil is incorrect. Comma 75/90 semi synthetic gear oil was recommended instead.
Thanks Jonnie.

Re: Type 9 gearbox
Does the Type 9 gearbox have the large magnet in the bottom as does the 2000E gearbox?
Re: Type 9 gearbox
Yes, the type 9 has a ring magnet in the bottom to collect any stray steel particles. There's no drain plug on these gearboxes, because they were supposed to be "lubricated for life". However, I suspect "life" was probably expected to be 10 to 12 years. I don't think the Ford engineers imagined they would be still going 30 odd years later Personally, I'd fit a drain plug, as there's no harm in regularly changing the oil.philthehill wrote: ↑Thu Jun 17, 2021 9:36 am Does the Type 9 gearbox have the large magnet in the bottom as does the 2000E gearbox?

Re: Type 9 gearbox
The magnet in the bottom of the 2000E box came in handy because when I stripped the box there was a layshaft needle bearing attached to it. Most likely there since new.

Re: Type 9 gearbox
If you buy the gearbox from Peter Gamble from Hi-Gear Engineering, they come fitted with a drain plug. I tapped the top plate to take a filler cap on my MG when I installed the T9.

Re: Type 9 gearbox
Judging by the original picture the filler is on top but no access in cab.

Re: Type 9 gearbox
The filler is on the side of the Ford Type 9 gearbox. There is no filler on the top of the gearbox.
