Oil pump cover replacent.

Post by midget »

I am still attempting to cure oil leak from rear seal and it has been suggested to me from a reliable source that the oil pump cover plate should be changed when rebuilding. I have investigated this, and the ridge on this one seems to be suspect, as it is flattened somewhat.

Should these plates be changed regularly, as this could be part of the problem?

I have not heard of this, but my traveller had a leaking rear seal too. I thought I had a big problem. It turned out to be blocked engine breather tubes. They were full of thick oily gung. I cleaned them out and the leaking stopped. Might be worth a look before you go to great expense.

I have never had to change a oil pump cover when rebuilding a 'A' Series.
I have never seen, read or heard of any requirement to change the oil pump cover.
So long as the raised portion of the oil pump cover is not distorted the cover will seal.
Greasing the rear engine plate gasket will help.
The 1275cc oil pump cover is on the right with the 1098oil pump cover on the left.
