differences between 1000 and 1098

My convertible is a 1970,1098 model and a friend of mine is considering a 1963 1000 pull start convertible.
Iam a little intrigued to know what differences are on the 2 vehicles please?

Well for starters, if it's a 63, it should be a 1098, because the change over from 948 to 1098 was Sep 62..... :-?

All Minors, after SII are '1000' models, whether 948 or 1098 cc.... :-? :-?

Logbook stats may 1963 morris 1000 convertible and engine states 1098 on logbook, so does this mean that although listed as a Morris 1000 it covers 948 and 1098 engines as well ?
I hope I've clarified myself properly 🤦‍♂️

The 1098 '1000' was the only car where the engine size was understated.

It couldn't be name the Morris 1100 as the ADO16 Austin/Morris 1100 came out in 1963

Main original differences (and I say original because so many have been buggered about with over the years) are in trim and equipment details. If it is right, it SHOULD have red rear and white front flashing indicators, clap hand wipers, gold speedometer with amber oil pressure warning light. Some people prefer these earlier cars, others favour the later editions.

Right, descriptions in Log Books can be wrong, it was a common thing to get variations in the days of hand written log books.
Only today, there was a post over on the facebook group about a car, Reg Number RTX 710. it's a standard Series II Minor, the DVLA should just have it as a Morris Minor first reg 1955.
If you check that reg it actually says MORRIS MINOR SERIES2, I've never seen that in all the times I've checked the database for a Minor's registration.
So, forget the reference to the '1000' as all minors from 1956 were 'Minor 1000' That's why they have the 'Minor 1000' on the side of the bonnet. SII Split Screens have a 'Morris Minor' bonnet badge.

JJ has described the other differences between early 'Minor 1000' and the latter ones like yours.

I can recommend the Potteries MMOC website for listing ways to identify different Series of Minors.

A late 62 car might well be registered in 63. When sales were slow new cars could sit around for months.

Indeed. My original 1098 traveller from Hartlepool had the Chassis nr starting with MAWD which , after DVLA digitilisation became MAWO.

When I went to re-register it here in Germany I wanted to change it back to the proper number but this would require (I jest) a law passed in the Bundestag so i decided to live with it. :)

Yes I have an ex police Velocette that DVLA have decided to call a Mobylette and another one they have decided is a Vilocet :o :-?

Despite all 30,000 plus produced being made in Birmingham UK... I am also frequently and reliably told they were definately French or Italian made....for the UK Police

Personally I cant imagine any Police Officer riding a Mobylette without Giggling :wink:
