Early '90's Ford Escort/Fiesta seats fit with very little work.

I'm a convert to Saab seats - I had a pair in the 54 saloon which I took to Gambia and they were fabulous.
I can't say I've ever looked forward to spending all day in Fiesta seats - the Saab ones were good for driving or sleeping (when not driving!)

where to break down next?

Paul just make sure that the seats come from a 2 door car or you wont have the tilt back to let passengers into the back, which is the sort that Steve is offering.
Cheers

Perfect modern alternative?

I'd say a rebuilt 'old' seat is a perfect modern alternative.
I've re placed the foam in mine with some from the bases of old office chairs. Its a revelation! No more back pain!

As for other seats, I'd avoid metro ones tbh. They take up too much space.
Fiesta mk1/2 seats would be perfect. Skinny and compact and they have great easy 'bolt-down' subframes too.
What would Macgyver do..?

The newton commercials are absolutely beautiful - so's the price

Strangley enough offered to relieve a certain someone on here of thier newtons the other week - he wasnt convinced that be better scrapping the car for the sake of the rusty wing and sending me the seats F.O.C. 8)

IMO the older Newton C seats were much more comfortable. The latter Rover units are short in the seat squab and do not support your legs enough, meaning aching legs after 1/2 an hour or so. The fitting cradle is pretty Heath Robinson too. Best option I believe are the SAAB seats, they are even electrically heated and some powered with memory. Easy to wire in ans extremely comfortable, seat backs are slim too to allow for rear passenger access when required :D

Yes, thank you (and JLH).

They're really comfy (though I have'nt wired in the heaters yet) - and no you can't have them - I still need them!

Saab 9000 IIRC (check ebay - they do come up occasionally!)

Yep, any 9000 model will do, don't go for the 900 as the bases are different. Pm me for fitting details. :D

Do the Saab 9000 seats fold forward for use in two-door cars?

If it doesn't work, you're not hitting it with a big enough hammer.

logic would say the 2 door - but you never know they might have used the same seats in mass production.

The seats wind down rather than the quick release fold mechanism of others, bit of a pain to reset but no problem really. A 4dr or 2dr seat will do as they are exactly the same.
