MMmo,
It took me about 3 months, lots of cleaning & scraping & preparation, and as Chesney says, measuring & remeasuring.....
I also had to do some fettling of the legs (the were too long at the rear where it braces against the centre X member) and I cut back about 2-3mm if I recall. I did get the cheapest legs though though, so I guess I paid the price later.
At the end of the day its been worthwhile though, car tracks beautifully (IMHO).
There if quite a bit on this forum about changing the legs including measurements etc, it's well worthwhile looking at them.

Realistically this is out of my depth, I ill have to pay for the privilege of new legs. Just need to fined somewhere near me.

Hi,
I had to have mine replaced. I use the car regularly and preserve them by either pouring old engine oil down them or injecting them with Dinitrol (waxoil), using an extended hose to reach all the way in.
I treat them by removing the gearbox cover and gaining access that way.

Been looking through the Forum for the cause of chassis legs rusting from the inside and can't find a mention....so...
Recently , have been having to top up the radiator after a decent run , and it's only yesterday that I noticed the soggy carpets...
Taking the carpets out to dry them found the under-felt sopping , taking the under-felt out revealed a wet floor...delving deeper , taking the gearbox/bell-housing cover off found the right hand rail was a paddling pool...
Drilled a small drain hole at the front , jacked the back axle up and removed the water ( or most of it ) leaving a hair-dryer on it as I type and will make sure it's bone dry then oiled.
Then to fix the heater leak ...
seems any water from behind the dash runs down the carpets to the floor and gravity takes it to the chassis legs where it works it's dark magic..

Now treat it with Dinitrol or engine oil (once it's dried out) to preserve them.

Looking at the prices Mark has posted, it is worth bearing in mind, that some legs have different arrangements for the area around the pin The original design is quite involved with considerable strengthening, something like a channel within a channel. I would be very surprised if replacement legs have anything like that, especially the cheaper ones, I certainly haven’t seen any, and when I did the job decided to remake the original area. I’d post a picture but understand you prefer to find a repairer but you might like to bear this in mind if you purchase the legs. I presume the saloon front legs are similar to an LCV.

I have just replaced a drivers side chassis leg and the old one was dented and had a patch but when it was cut out it was full of rust, Even though it seemed ok it was very rough inside, the new one has been cleaned up coated with red oxides and has weld through primer on the faces. The new panel i got from ESM was a hideous fit even though it was bull motif being almost 10mm to wide at the front.

I bought my Traveller for £360 in 1979. It failed its first MOT on the chassis legs. I had them welded for around £30. Every year the patches got bigger. In 1983 I took the car to Bath to have both legs replaced by Charley Ware. It cost around £300, but they have net rusted since. I do soak them with Waxoil.
1969 Traveller in Almond green. Owned since 1979.

Both fairly bad, but the photo was of the rh side which was the worst. My decision to change them was fairly marginal, could easily have persuaded myself that the flakes of rust visible from inside the gearbox cover weren't really serious.... Quite shocked when I found the area around the eyebolt reinforcement to be severely weakened.
