window frame

I have seen the post with the front door problem with uneven gap, solved by ajusting the window frame, I've got exactly the same trouble with my four door car, enough space for a new door seal until it comes to the window frame area.
Can I ajust my four door car the same way.

Yes - open the door, wind down the window, brace the door with your knee and pull the frame towards you gently but firmly a bit at a time until the frame sits tightly on the seal.

I've done this and it works. Scared that I would break something though!

The threaded plates on the frame legs that the securing bolts screw into are only spot welded in place and it is possible to snap these off when flexing the frame.
I actually removed the window frames and secured them in a vice. I could then slip a large diameter four foot long tube over each leg in turn and easily bent the legs slightly giving the desired result. :D

allthough possible to damage the welds ,highly unlikely,Just get your knee onto the job.You are actually levering against the top of the door not the bottom of the window frame. To get say 1/4 inch on the top only moves the bottom by a very slight amount, hardly any at all.I would suspect it how they did the final adjustment on the production line of most cars in the early days. The only time its not possible is on cars with a deeply dished window, where it may cause the glass to stick in the runners.

I must have been dead unlucky - the plates on both my frames let go when I heaved on the top of the unit.
Had to weld them back on properly as the spot welds were tiny!

I've got clearance now just not quite enough at the very top, I don't want to strip the door again :( but if I have to I will.
