Body Repair Panels...

Post by Welung666 »

Hey everyone :)

Now I've got Doris mostly stripped out, it's about time I stated getting in repair panels so I can start brushing out the rust (and I mean brushing as most of her floor and inner wings etc are mainly rust and air!!!) and stitching in new panels ready for a thick coat of anti-rust primer. Any ideas where I can order good quality repair panels? Preferably not the paper thin pressings but decent guage steel panels that are likely to slightly resemble the correct shape

I have had a quick look through ESM's repair panels and worked out that I won't be far off a thousand quids worth of panels  but still if I want Doris to last another 35 years I gotta do it properly!!

Thanks in advance

Lee (& Doris)

So come on folks! Where are the best panels available from?

In case anyone fancies a good session of tutting and sharp intakes of breath through their teeth I've put the pics of what I found under the 4 wings up on my website link, not for the feint hearted though!!

Well Lee - not all of it needs complete panels, but it's up to you really.
The rear wing seam is a pig of a job, and ith the state of the A-posts etc.. you'd have to have a really good reason to do all that wark :-?

True, there's only the paint holding the Raymobile together :P

As for the challenge, I wouldn't have got me a mog if I didn't like a challenge :P I'd have got a rot proof eurobox with all the electronics ready to go wrong on me when I need it most :P At least with a mog, unless it's something drastic, I can repair it myself roadside if necessary!

Yup, seen and bought much worse - you're quite lucky no-one's tried to repair things with random gauge steel patches! Mind you, these things always look worse in the flesh than in the photo - good luck.

If you have the patience it is possible to acquire panels from ebay although the postage costs can be prohibitive.
