Quietest paint removal tool

My neighbours have been very tolerant so far about the noise I've been creating, but I've got to the point of some serious paint removal and as I don't want to do this with the garage door closed I'm looking for something a little quieter than the flap disks on my angle grinder. Are D/A sanders quieter? And would an air powered machine be quieter than electric - my 3HP compressor is quite well muffled away from the work zone.

I don't think I want to get involved in paint stripping chemicals from the previous info I've read on how useless modern Nitromors is. And I haven't the time or energy to do it entirely by hand!

i have a 240 volt DA sander which is very quiet but you cant get into corners or gutters like angle grinder with wire brush fitted

These are very good and less abrasive than a flapper disc, but you still have the noise of your angle grinder.
This is just an example but I've found similar ones can wear quite quickly.

Re using your compressor I have a 150 litre 3hp tank, and the air tools literally keep the motor running, so I don't think air tools are the way forward re noise reduction.

The compressor is quite well insulated, so noise from its motor isn't too much of a problem. Are the air tools any quieter at the business end? For convenience I'd prefer to stick with electric.

Try using a hot air gun and scraper. It will get you down to the first primer layers and do so in almost complete silence.

Just tried the heat gun method and it's quite promising. Thanks for the useful advice from all, although I don't think I'll pursue Roy's suggestion for the time being.......

heat gun works but be careful you don't overheat the panel , mainly bonnet and roof, easy to cause distortion

A gallon of starchem water based paint striper and a wallpaper scraper is about as quiet as you can get.
