Not much here on this subject so would appreciate some advice please. Have to weld a split in the nearside "b" post which is adjacent to the window rubber. Tried to shield it with sheet steel but unsure if this will work effectively. Next option is to remove the whole glass and rubber surround which looks like a 'mare to me. Any thoughts?

Cut the trim and pull the glass. You'll need a new one anyway.

I agree you will probably need a new one, some cars have clips on the inside to stop you just pushing the glass into the car from the ouside, you just bend these back with pliers, run a screwdriver round the outer edge to loosen any sealant and carefully push from the outside into the car.

Thanks. Is refitting a direct reversal of this procedure with, I assume plenty of lubricant?

Hmm, see what you mean. Despite 20 mins with the hot air gun and liberal coating with Fairy liquid I still ended up (inadvertently) cutting the rubber. No clips evident. New one ordered, but what is the sequence of refitting? Glass to rubber then rubber to frame or t'other way round?

I recently did mine & putting the rubber on the glass & then the assy to the body worked great. The best lube I found for fitting all the rubbers to body was hellerine oil, sold for electricians to run cables through conduit.

I find if you start it from the pillar end and get the top and bottom corners in first its easier. The corners are the places were the rubber is most likely to stick or rip. I generally get the whole thing started with a screw driver and then finish pulling into place with the string.

Thanks for that. Does the new rubber come with the "fitting" string or this placed in as part of the procedure?
I have done screens on other cars, but not Minors.

It doesn't come with it. I used a length of plastic coated washing line. It's strong, slippery & big enough not to tear the rubbers.

In conclusion (at last), thanks to all for advice. Refitted today following your guides and was pleased to find that it was not as difficult as I assumed. Hellerine oil expensive, but it certainly worked well.

That hellerine oil is excellent & a bottle should last for years.

Did you use hellerine for the rear windscreen too?

Yes, used it on all of mine. Brilliant stuff.

Apologies for the thread drift....does anyone happen to know which rear glass is larger, 2-door rear or Convertible? I don't have either of them here. Thanks.

The convertible is slightly larger at the top, towards the rear - if that makes sense - because the curve downwards starts further back.

Thanks. I'm making solid frames for a Lowlight instead of the canvas ones (£250 each!!!) so I need to see if either piece of glass would be a suitable shape. I'll get a template from a 2-door and see how that looks.
