Series 11 GPO van windscreen
Has anybody any advice re the fitting of the left hand, fixed screen on a split screen GPO van, I have purchased a normal rubber seal which I assume has to be cut and mitred then glued into the correct shape but it would be good to know how tight it needs to be on the glass

I would talk to Maurice Rapley of MTR Restorations. He has an advert in the current edition of Minor Matters, with contact details. He has a few GPO Split screen vans.benots wrote:Has anybody any advice re the fitting of the left hand, fixed screen on a split screen GPO van, I have purchased a normal rubber seal which I assume has to be cut and mitred then glued into the correct shape but it would be good to know how tight it needs to be on the glass

Pre 1967 LCVs moulded - exterior shape totally different with no insert - w/screen rubbers, will probably have to go to a specialist.
Further investigations uncovered it was an inside job!!

Re: Series 11 GPO van windscreen
If you've got suitable rubber seal (COH Baines are the best if you haven't), I'd fit the seal to the windscreen frame first and cut it slightly over length, ie: you have to squeeze the rubber up slightly to get it all in. This allows for a bit of shrinkage over time and stops gaps opening up on the corners. Should be relatively common sense when you try it. You may be able to glue the mitred corners with a bit of rubber adhesive, which may make it more watertight, though to be honest I've never come across an opening windscreen van that has been completely watertight!
cheers
