Should the large machine screws holding the lower part of the timber frame to the B post be fitted with washers? Just looked through hundreds of photos on the internet, but can't find anything to help. My own photos from before I started the restoration show washers fitted, but as most details had been bodged before my ownership I'd like a more informed opinion, please.

Mine certainly has washers under the screw heads, I would think that is fairly nomal when nipping onto wood.
