MM/early s2 dash centre

I’m just refitting the dash centre to my early ‘54 s2 . The chrome waterfall grille has three pins to locate through the dash. The Moss parts catalogue lists a nut as going behind but my pins have no thread or any sign of having had thread on. Logically unthreaded pins are usually retained by spire clips and although these could be slipped on it would be almost impossible to pry them off again in such a limited space. I always thought spires were for items such as trim which were not expected to be routinely removed.
Can someone tell me how this should be attached please? The car was partly dismantled when I got it and of the original fastners there is no sign.

My centre panel as you say has 3 pins and they just push into spring loaded sockets which create a friction fit on the pins.
The panel because of this is just pulled off and pushed on, if the spring sockets are not present I'm not sure of the best retaining method.

Has anyone got one of these sockets loose and could put up a photo please so I know what I should get?

I lost 2 of my fixings so I screwed the pins m5 & used m5 nuts & washers to secure

Many thanks Brian, now I know what to look for. I have solved it temporarily when I held the switch panel to the dash with two u clips. This pulled the holes for the pins very slightly out of line so the pins stay in place without fastners.
I wanted to avoid anything too permanent as I have a poor contact in the light switch. If it doesn’t improve with regular use I will have to replace it.

If those spring clips are for pins approx 3/16" dia then I have an idea which other car you may obtain them from...

On one of mine with the plain pins I have 3 little rubber grommets in the holes that grip the pins quite well. Easy to tug the panel off if I want to get to the wiring inside. Best system, IMHO.

Ah, I thought you were pulling my leg there taupe. The pins are indeed 3/16”.
Small grommets might do the trick.

Is it possible to use something like the pictured plastic badge fitting?
I lifted the pic from
www.bresco.com who sell many types of automotive clips and fixings.
They may even have something even closer to the clips you're looking for.
Unfortunately they don't sell them in small quantities. Generally in bags of 40 at a time.

Many thanks for all the suggestions, plenty to consider there. I think I’ll try grommets first as I already have a boxed assortment.
