Chassis leg flange to Xmember

Post by paulio0898 »

Hi All,

Just a bit confused about the above.
Ive got a new leg and it has three 1/2 " flanges on each side of the leg, where it fits to X-member.
But seen photos on here of old legs with flanges that go right out around the torsion bar area.

So bit confused now if I need to fit an extra piece? I can't see any other parts on the exploded views from ESM etc?

Cheers
Paul

This is what you should have been supplied with:-

Note the metal flange that goes round the torsion bar hole in the cross member at the rear of the leg.

If you do not have the torsion bar hole metal flange speak to ESM and ask why the torsion bar flange is not now included. You do need that torsion bar hole flange.

The torsion bar hole allows for the precise location of the leg to cross member. Use two stepped torsion bar location washers- one fitted into the front of the torsion bar hole leg flange and the other into the rear of the cross member torsion bar hole. Saves a lot of hassle.

Not disagreeing that it would be better to have the circular flange, but it only seems to assist positioning rather than any significant contribution to strength. My new legs (secondhand unused, manufacturer unknown) didn't have the circular flange but there was enough evidence on the floor and crossmember to determine the correct position.

If you only have the 1/2" flange the rear of the torsion bar / reaction arm will not sit as they should.

You can fairly easily add the circular ring and weld in place this is an original factory replacement leg....and below is Robs very original shell
