Open spaces

Apologies if this has been answered before but can the open glove box space in front of the steering wheel be enclosed with an earlier hinged lid? 🤔🚙

It can. The hole in the dashboard itself never changed shape. If you purchase a lid from an earlier car, you need to obtain all the fittings - the hinges and the catch etc and the liner is different as well but it can all be done with a little work.

Yes.
I wanted to have a mounting panel for some gauges and switches so when I spotted a pair of earlier lids, the ones with the solid infill and chrome surround, at an autojumble for a silly low price, I leapt at the chance.
I still haven't got around to fitting the passenger side, but I used the chrome surround from the driver's side to make a hinged panel for my accessories mounting.
Coincidentally, I recently posted a photo of the arrangement here: viewtopic.php?f=11&t=73112&p=663324#p663250

The hinge holes were slightly different spacing to the glovebox liner screw holes.
It's a tight enough fit I didn't have to worry about how to arrange the catch part.

Having not made holes in the original panel, it can always be reassembled at a later date if required.

Bought a set of lids on Oboy and paid quite a bit for them, but they are in good condition and only need to be resprayed in Traffy Blue.
I think I will be fitting the lid with gauges, Ammeter, Quartz clock and Temperature gauge with a simple magnetic catch at the top to allow access to the wiring.
The passenger side lid is back on sale so if anyone needs it let me know. MMOC members discount will be gladly applied! :)

Open glove box now filled with new instrument panel..
Top fixing screw had to be fitted with a long screwdriver through the clock aperture, bit of a nightmare but hopefully won't have to repeat it too often! 😎👍

The neatest solution in my mind would be to obtain a late LHD glove box lid as below - somebody was offering fibreglass copies.

Yes, I did look for a LHD passenger box lid without success so the early RHD drivers lid was cleverly welded in to the back of the existing surround by my brother (Master welder and Trike builder extraordinaire!) :D
