Priming Fibreglass for 2 Pack?

Post by Boomlander »

Hi all,
I have a Fibreglass component to spray with 2 pack paint and was wondering which primer I should use.
I have a stock of cellulose primer and etch primer, can either be used on the gel coat or do I need a special primer?
Thanx🤔👍

don't use the etch primer causes all sorts of problems on grp.just flat the panel and use basic primer,2 pack if you have it,it dosent sink into body filler ,like celly does ,causeing rings round any repaired areas.,just make sure the gel coat is well flatted to give a sound base for the primer.

I use epoxy on fiberglass, sticks well and being waterproof limits the problems with micro porsosity, panels I did on my elan 20 years ago are still fine, let it cure well (a couple of days in summer) before rubbing down and topcoat to make sure all the thinners had evaporated off.
I wouldn't use cellulose, I always seemed to get sinkage marks appear with it.
