Screaching Fan

Post by PaulJohnson »

Hello Everyone.

When I switch on my fan it makes a screaching sound

So i thought what it needed was some good old 3in1 oil put somewhere, I looked in my £16-95 Haynes moggy manual to find a picture of the fan/heater box but to my horror there was none, so I looked in my green moggy 1000 drivers handbook, there was a picture of the box but no writing on who to take it apart.

How do I take it apart? or
do I need a new motor + will the 3IN1 oil do the trick?.

Also I have read a lot of good feedback on heaters/fans what is this rotting pipe that everyone seems to have?.

Paul,

Mine makes the same noise when I switch it on but it goes after about 1-2 seconds so I ignore it!

The rotting pipe is the fresh air intake that goes between the front grille and the fresh air heater (in the cab).

Ha!

And I always thought my car was unique! The sound makes me think of a parrot with piles !!!

The sound has frightened a few of my passengers over the years but I tend to view it as one of the strange quirks of an old car. 8)

I guess it is caused by an air lock rather than a mechanical problem? Simply switch the heater off and back on again very quickly - I always find the noise doesn't re-occur.

I've got the older-type round recirculatory heater, and that rattles like a bag of spanners. The number of times I've heard "is something wrong with the engine?" when I've turned the fan on!

I've had lots of screeching heater fans. The sound goes after a second or 2 so I never gave it a second thought until now.
