Box section and door draught exluders.

Post by Chief »

Okay, over the christmas holidays we found out our box section was nicely full of water (our rear window rubber was the culprit) .We managed to siphon it out using the radiator over flow pipe and now the big question. I know it is impossible to get into the box section (the top holes are way too small :) ), and (judging by the rust under the back seat base) that it's only surface rust in the box section. What would you suggest for treating the rust? We thought of draining it, drying it and using wd40 to dry up the remaining moisture in it. But then what? Is it okay to use something like hammerites stuff which turns rust into a solid, non-damaging material ? Or is there something better to do? We don't want to have to resort to expensive welding (it was a new chassis about half a year ago) so what do you suggest? (we have had a new rear rubber put in and its keeping the box section dry - pity they fitted it inside out -have to see them about that :D)

On another note, we bought some draught excluders, but I was using the mm centre (bath)'s abridged catalogue, so I ordered four of their 2 door excluders. 1 of these actually was perfect for our 4-door car, but 3 are a tad too small. Would it be better to see if we can swap the three for their four door excluders, or would it work out just as well to buy another door excluder and cut it up to fit the areas that weren't covered?

thanks :)

for the box section under the rear seat I'd suggest adding a few decent sized drain holes. The it shold dry out by itself over a few weeks. If you can leave the rear seat out it should speed the process up.
When it's dry it's worth getting the area wax-oiled.
