\whats the best way to fit the splitscreen chrome on a fitted screen,many thanks stevie

Centre pillar or surround? Or both?

Centre pillar and glass both in,just how to get the surround fitted,the best way.is it best to fit ths surround into the rubber with the windows out and then refit the whole lot?ta much

The way I did it was to put a fine peice of string in the chrome channel and once the screen was fitted to carefully insert the chrome surround under the clips at the top and bottom, start to fit with a screwdriver and once started you should be able to pull the rest in with the string. A very fiddly and time consuming job but worth it when it finally goes in.

I don't know if this helps or not! Maybe it's the opposite problem.

Mine came loose on the drivers side and was only held in place by the central clips. I put some black adhesive on the rubber and refitted holding in place with tape until the adhesive set. Its now very solid and secure.

I have the windscreen installation procedure from an old manual, I will try and attach,but maybe too big.[frame][/frame]

Does anyone know where I could get a replacement chrome strip for the split screen rubber (the surround not the centre strip)
Mine is very shabby and has dents.

Sorry, they are obsolete and are as common as rocking horse poo.... probably best to keep and re-use the one you have.

I suspected / feared that this would be the situation.

I will try to get them in as good a condition as I can then!

At least you have the trim, which is more than a lot of cars have.

How is the trim different/identifiable from the later single piece windscreen style?

The split screen is smaller and has tighter radii in the lower corners. So the later trim is the wrong shape. The profile is similar and the later trims were stainless steel as oppose to the chrome plated brass of the split screens.

Just wondering about the specifics of fitting the chrome surrounds. Someone mentioned adhesive - is this necessary or are the clips all that is needed?

Also, I note that there are small holes at the very ends of the surround, which will fall underneath the clips - are screws meant to be used here?

It all depends on the condition of the windscreen rubber and the trim. If both are good then the trim should be held in the grooves in the rubber, if not then you will have to resort to strong adhesive and masking tape to hold the trim in place whilst the glue dries. The ends of the trim should sit under the ends of the V shaped clips.
When you have tried the water test you will find that the screen leaks like a sieve and you will have to start again.

I've always wondered about those holes no where for a screw to go that I could see,wonder if the factory had some way of using them for pulling the surround onto the rubber

The rubbers are brand new (Bull Motif) and the trims reclaimed (MMOC) and rechromed, so I'm good to go. The only snag seems to be that the garage which tried (and failed) to replace the rubber has 'mislaid' one of the clips...

Inform the garage that the clips are unobainable and tell them to find the clip or else. I can never understand how some garages can be so careless with parts,

Hi everyone
I have a 1950 MM series and wish to fit the 2 chrome strips into the front window rubber. However I am missing the 2 retainer clips that fit under the centre chrome strip I presume. Can these be obtained or something made to do the job????
I have never seen these clips so do not know what they look like. Are they necessary or is another method available?

These clips are very hard to come by.
The last set I found on Ebay recently sold for £56.00.

I am not sure if I am right but I believe the holes in the ends of the metal split windscreen trims are there so the delicate pieces could be hung up in the chroming process. They are hidden away in the final assembly.
